Planning Outfits for Vacation: Tips That Actually Make Packing Easier

Packing for a vacation can be… a lot. You want to feel cute, be comfortable, and somehow fit everything into your bag without sitting on it to zip it shut (we’ve all been there). When you’re staring at your closet thinking, Do I really need three pairs of sandals? it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

That’s why I’m sharing a few of my favorite tricks for planning outfits for vacation—things I use myself and with my clients—to make packing simpler, lighter, and way less stressful.

Planning Outfits for Vacation

Vacation Outfit Planning Tips:

  1. Pack the small things, wear the big things. Outerwear and bulky shoes should be on your body, not in your bag.

  2. Limit yourself to three pairs of shoes (or less). Trust me, you’ll thank yourself when you’re not hauling extras you never wear.

  3. Choose pieces that do double-duty. Rewear pants, versatile shoes, or a layer that works both day and night.

  4. Pack in order. Lay out your outfits by day so you can just grab and go once you’re there.

  5. Keep accessories close. Pack jewelry, belts, and small items in your carry-on or personal bag.

When you actually plan outfits for vacation, you save space, save energy, and end up feeling way more confident while you’re away. Instead of stressing about what to wear, you just… wear it. You’ll know everything in your bag works together, you’ll have outfits you like, and you’ll have more time to focus on the trip itself.

If you want to take it a step further, I’ve created a Vacation Outfit Planning Template—basically a roadmap that helps you lay out each day’s looks, keep track of what to pack, and make sure everything works together. I promise, packing will never feel the same! –Erik
